Successful festival

Food stalls at Mold Food Festival John Les Tomos, chairman of Mold Food and Drink Festival reports on 2009 and looks forward to next year’s Festival on 25 and 26 September 2010. The 2009 Mold Food and Drink Festival was a tremendous successes. The footfall was 10,000 and from our exit survey 70% of those that came to Mold for the Festival also went shopping in town. Returns from exhibitors have also been very complimentary, with 11 firm bookings already for next year, and the emphasis on local produce, local businesses and local chefs for the demonstrations went down well.

In our exit survey of over 400 people, not one asked where the big name chefs were. Indeed comments were made that the chefs and demonstrators we used were practical and down to earth, giving recipes that could be made at home.

The musical entertainment was also well received although we do have a problem with the noise level and will address this for 2010. We are also looking at other sources of power to reduce the amount of diesel used in the generators.

The cooperation of the public bodies involved – Flinitshire County Council, Mold Town Council and Cadwyn Clwyd has been great, as was the support we received from the Round Table, Rotary, Mold 2000, Mold Business Group, cadets from the police, army, RAF, guides and scouts, I’m sure to have missed someone out! This was community cooperation at its best.
It is estimated that spend over the two days at the Festival and with the surrounding businesses was at least £280,000.
If any one feels they could help in any way next year, we are always looking for willing volunteers. Contact John Les Tomos on 01352 741 466.
