Enforcement against Dog Fouling and Litter

fluffy black and tan dogFlintshire County Council has introduced a Dog Control Order to combat dog fouling. From 3 December 2009 it will be an offence for those in control of dogs to allow fouling to occur and then fail to remove their waste.

Enforcement will be undertaken by officers authorised by Flintshire County Council which will include Police and Community Support Officers as well as the Council’s own enforcement officers. These officers will also be empowered to serve fixed penalty notices for litter offences, with the same penalties applying.

A range of penalties are in place:-

  • £50 penalty if paid within 7 days of the offence
  • £75 fixed penalty, payable within 14 days of the offence
  • prosecution through the Courts, (with a maximum fine currently of £1000).
