Karen Hodgkinson has been involved in Bryn Gwalia Food Co-op since if first began about three years ago. During that time the co-op has grown from strength to strength. They have about 240 people on their books; although an average of 60-70 orders are placed each week. Bryn Gwalia Co-op is non-profit making and their charge for fresh produce is very reasonable.

A typical vegetable order would consist of potatoes, carrots, a cauliflower, broccoli and a couple of onions for £3. Orders half that size and price are available, as are larger £4 and £5 boxes. There are also salad and fruit orders, free range eggs, compost and bark, all good value for money.

The co-op is supplied by Alan Huson, a local farmer/grower from Hawarden. Alan supplies as much of the seasonal vegetable and salad produce as he can from his own farm and from other growers, it’s good quality food at reasonable prices.

Karen said that the co-op has recently started taking Healthy Start Vouchers to pay for orders of fruit, salad or vegetables. This is particularly handy for pregnant and breast-feeding mums who need fresh produce in their diets.
